Who am I
My name is Samuel Holmshaw, I am a football coach from Sheffield, England. I have been coaching football for 7 years and have had the experience of working in various grassroots and academy level settings within football and other sporting vocations.
I am currently studying for my Master’s degree in Sports Coaching at Leeds Beckett University. I also have an internship here, working with 2nd and 3rd year students. In this role I assess their performance and give feedback in a variety of sports coaching sessions, often carried out in schools and performance settings.
My ambition in the world of football coaching is to obtain the position of the head coach of a professional football club. My 5 year plan is geared towards gaining the experience necessary to achieve this. I also have a keen interest in studying for a PHD in the field of sport’s coaching science and want to get involved in lecturing in this subject, as I would like to give something back to the academic world, that, thus far, has served me so well.
The purpose of this website
In my youth, I played football at grassroots level. The standard of coaching was very poor and I never had the opportunity to develop. At the age of 15, I knew I wasn’t going to make it as a professional footballer, so I was inspired to get into coaching, with the dream to one day make it as a professional football coach.
In my opinion there are not enough coaches in the world of football that come from an ‘academic background’ like myself. There is a lot of knowledge in the academic literature that is unknown to coaches. Therefore, the purpose of this website is to share some of the academic knowledge that I have learnt over the last 4 years at university and how I apply this to my coaching.
